David Bowie Rock Legend Dead at 69
David Bowie Dies at 69
Groundbreaking rock star David Bowie died Sunday from cancer at the age of 69.
Bowie was surrounded by his family when he died ... according to the
announcement posted on his Facebook page. He'd been diagnosed with
cancer 18 months ago.
He was a huge innovator in glam rock, art rock, dance, punk and electronica. Bowie made a splash in the 60s with his famous Ziggy Stardust
alter ego and went on to crank out hits like ... "Major Tom," and
"Ziggy Stardust," "All the Young Dudes," "Let's Dance," and "Modern
Love."
In 1981 he teamed up with Queen for the classic, "Under Pressure."
Bowie was also successful as an actor and music producer -- and got
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. He'd been married
to supermodel Iman since 1992.
He just released his 25th album, "Blackstar" ... on January 8th, which was also his birthday.
