The Kano State
Government said it has released N3 million for procurement of
disinfectant to clean poultry farms affected by the recent outbreak of bird flu in the state.
The Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Nasiru Gawuna, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday.
He
said that the measure had become necessary so as to check the spread of
the disease to other farms across the state and beyond.
“As soon as the disinfectant is procured, it will be used to clean all the poultry farms found to be affected by the disease.
“Government
is also doing its best to protect all the farms that are not yet
affected by the disease and ensure that the disease does spread to other
places,” he said.
He also disclosed that a
team of veterinary doctors and other experts had visited the affected
farms with a view to assessing the situation.
The commissioner said that they were expected to forward their report to the state government for immediate action.
According
to him, the state government is also expecting intervention from the
Federal Government within the shortest time possible
NAN
recalls that over 35, 000 birds have so far been culled in 10 affected
farms since the disease resurfaced in the state about two weeks ago.
